Heading home
I'll be home later today after 5 days on the road (except for a brief respite Sunday afternoon where I went to the Jaguars game with Pete). Friday was crazy busy working on a big project. So crazy, Karen almost went to Grandmama's in Cairo, GA without me. I was able to wrap up and pack quickly, though it was tempting to stay home and rest.
Saturday morning I was able to go for a 32-mile bike ride across some southwest Georgia country roads. I almost didn't get to do that either because my doggone Garmin 305 had a dead battery, and I had downloaded my course into it so I wouldn't get lost. I let it charge for 30 minutes and once I saw I had 2 out of 4 bars, I decided I had enough of a charge to give it a try. About 12 miles into the ride, the Garmin gave me a LOW BATTERY warning. Ugh. I guess the second bar I saw was just barely above a single bar. When I got to the intersection where I was supposed to turn left to Calvary, I decided to eliminate that spur and head home. That cut my ride by 10-miles. No big deal, I still had a great ride on the rolly hills. I saw cows, cotton, horses, pigs and sugar cane. Folks on tractors waved to me and for the most part, vehicles gave me ample room, albeit they were going 80-miles an hour. I was chased by a couple of dogs, some fierce looking. I saw MX Ranch, apparently the Motocross capital of the world. My chiropractor told me on Friday to look for it when I went in for an adjustment. His sons participate in motocross competitions around the Southeast. The weather was cool, and my ears were freezing in the shade, but overall it was really nice.
Karen's Dad picked up Grandmama and brought her over to Aunt Margie's. Aunt Margie prepared a terrific spread later that afternoon and we had a terrific day of hanging out and watching football. If only Kentucky could have pulled the upset.
We left early Sunday morning so I could meet up with Pete at noon to go to the Jaguar game. Good game and the Jaguars won. Then hurry home to catch a flight to Columbus, OH for meetings on Monday. I got into my hotel at 11:00, and was in bed by midnight. I woke up at 5:50 the next morning to go for a run around the Ohio State University campus. I got to see the stadium up close and had a smug feeling of satisfaction when I thought back to the National Championship game. Meetings were good and I spent part of the afternoon working on an RFP response. Early dinner and then back to the hotel to pack. This morning I had to wake up at 4:15 to catch a 6:30 flight. Ugly. I'm now in the Tampa airport waiting on my flight back to Jacksonville. The scheduling stinks, I could rent a car and drive back to Jax before my flight leaves at 11:50. Oh well.
Looking forward to a relaxing Thanksgiving (after the half marathon), and then another busy week next week in Minneapolis and Ft. Lauderdale.
