Ch-ch-changes
I made some changes to the blog over the holiday, including adding support for entry tags. As a result, it will be necessary to re-subscribe to the RSS feed. I am now handling my RSS feeds through Feedburner, so in the future if I make changes it won't be necessary to change subscriptions. Here is the new RSS feed. Please let me know if you notice any funkiness with the website.
There will most likely be additional changes soon. Movable Type 4 is in testing, but from what I have seen so far, I will make the jump when it is out of beta.

The Fairness Doctrine
So, talk radio skews too far to the Right?
House Republican lawmakers are preparing to fight anticipated Democratic efforts to regulate talk radio by reviving rules requiring stations to balance conservative hosts such as Rush Limbaugh with liberals such as Al Franken.
Hmm. NPR admittedly has a leftward slant, and is partially funded by the federal government. I haven't heard folks on the left complaining about the need to guarantee the diversity of views on NPR. This news is also interesting after reading a recently released report that shows in a survey of 143 journalists, 91% have contributed to a liberal cause.

Bring me a shrubbery!
This should bring out the ire of the environmentalists! I think this is the funniest headline I have seen since "Rice arrives in China".

Michael Corrigan for City Council
With the Ortega River Run cutting through our neighborhood tomorrow, it is my goal to have as many Michael Corrigan signs in front of homes along the race course as possible. I have 25 signs to distribute, and in about 30 minutes this morning I received commitments for most of them. I had to leave some messages, but I’m confident they will all be in place this evening.
Councilman Corrigan has done quite a bit for our neighborhood during his first term in office. Our creek was dredged, we finally got the Herschel Park project in motion, and he was very objective during the St. Johns Village PUD process. He has also ensured that Fire Station Number 14 won’t go away any time soon.
I bet I could guarantee him a nearly unanimous vote from our neighborhood if he could get our utilities placed underground.

Self-fulfilling prophecies
On the front page of the Drudge Report:
NYT: BE PREPARED FOR CHAOS ON ELECTION DAY; NEW MACHINES, LINES, CONFUSION...
I'm sure they are going to be very consistent in this line of thinking (good-bye objectivity) to make sure there are examples to report on the day after the election. They might do well to learn that people prefer objective reporting. It might even help them financially, because their current modus operandi is causing them to sink like a rock.

Welcome to Bizarro World
Huh?
Israel Violates Law on U.S. Weapons in Mideast Frida Berrigan, a senior research associate with the Arms Trade Resource Center at the World Policy Institute in New York, is equally outraged at the misuse by Israel of U.S.-supplied weapons.
"As Israel jets bombard locations in Gaza, Haifa and Beirut, killing civilians (including as many as seven Canadians vacationing in Aitaroun), it is worth remembering that U.S. law is clear about how U.S.-origin weapons and military systems ought to be used," Berrigan told IPS.
She pointed out that the U.S. Arms Export Control Act clear states that U.S. origin weapons should not be used for "non-defensive purposes."
The funny thing is, later in the article, the author of this article refers to the "'utmost restraint' that world leaders called for at the G8 Summit of the world's most industrialized nations, which just ended in St. Petersburg, Russia". Glad he's on top of the G8 Summit.
Apparently he missed this part of the summit (emphasis added):
G8 asks Hezbollah to end violence The G8 leaders called on the Hezbollah to initiate a ceasefire and free captured Israeli soldiers.
The leaders put aside differences and issued a joint statement at the summit in St. Petersberg, Russia, on Sunday. They stressed Israel's right to self-defense, initially voiced by the US.
