5x800 on the track at race pace
Jay, Mike and I did 5x800 on the track today at anticipated pace for Saturday's Ortega River Run. Felt pretty good, although a little low on energy. I didn't wake up early enough this morning to put some fuel in the body before heading out. The amazing thing is I was running at 5-mile race pace (7:00/mi) and kept the heart rate in the high 150s and low 160s for most of the intervals. Usually I'm well into the high 160s for these efforts. Granted my previous 800 splits were about 8 seconds faster per interval, this might also be an indication that my aerobic base is improving.

Looks like a perfect workout by data and your feel for the run. Your HR would gradually creep toward 170 over 5 mi or so, but so long as your hip holds out, I think that you could maintain that pace for 10-15k . Also see how your rec. HR came down before we turned along Park Street during the cooldown. Don't inflame your hip swimming before the race.
